Formula 1 competitor Liam Lawson disclosed he narrowly avoided a potentially deadly accident during Sunday's Mexico City Grand Prix when two marshals crossed the track immediately ahead of his car

The concerning event happened on the third lap when marshals were spotted on the track as Lawson was getting back on the race following an early pitstop to swap his broken nose section

Racer's Instant Response

Immediately after, the team's competitor Lawson communicated to his team engineer saying: "You've got to be joking? Did you just see that? I nearly... ended their lives"

"I honestly couldn't believe what I was witnessing"

"I exited on a brand new hard tyres, and then I got to Turn One and suddenly there were two dudes sprinting across the track"

"I almost collided with one of them, honestly, it was extremely hazardous"

Security Issues Highlighted

"Obviously there's been a communication breakdown at some point but I've never experienced that before, and I haven't really seen that in the past. It's pretty unacceptable"

"We can't understand how on a live track safety personnel can be allowed to just dash across the track in that manner. I'm clueless about the cause, I'm certain we'll get some kind of clarification, but this absolutely cannot recur"

Governing Body Reviewing

F1's overseeing organization, the global motorsport federation, is currently investigating the circumstances

"After an occurrence at turn one, the race directors was advised that debris was present on the track at the apex of that corner" declared the regulatory authority

"On lap three, safety personnel were informed and placed on standby to go onto the racing surface and clear the fragments once the entire field had cleared the area"

"The moment it was realized that Lawson had entered the pits, the orders to send officials were rescinded and a safety warning flag was shown in that area"

"We are still investigating what occurred after that point"
